Sally Naylor Kern

In honor of Sally Naylor Kern, a true cat lover.

From Meredith Callan

Jonas “Possum” Hirsh-Haines

Was the first child my husband and I adopted in December 2007 (via the Specialty Purebred Cat Rescue). To us, he was never just a cat…he was our son. Though by appearances this scruffy little cat with his snaggle teeth, scratched face and missing hair would have been deemed the runt of the litter, he was perfect to us (Jonas was a “natural” Sphynx…a domestic cat born with the hairless gene, meaning he had no undercoat, just a layer of course outer hairs). By bringing Jonas into our life, my husband and I transitioned from newlywed couple to a family. Jonas was our son, nurse, therapist, friend and confidant. His unconditional love has left an indelible mark on our lives and the lives of his rescue terrier brothers, Oliver and Maxwell, as well as anyone whom he cuddled.

Jonas passed away on May 27th due to complications from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM)…his heart was literally too big. We would like to thank the amazing staff members of Berglund Animal Hospital in Evanston, Il., as well as the Chicago Veterinary Emergency  Specialty Center, Dr. Howes and Dr. Leuthy–we are grateful for the care you provided to our son.

Specialty purebred Cat Rescue, thank you for showing us the opportunity to have Jonas in our lives. He was one in a million.

Griffin Tiggelaar

He was taken from us far too soon, but his unique personality filled our hearts with enough love and memories to last a lifetime. We miss your furry heavy pads pressing down on us with all your weight and the way you announced your every move. We will always love you and keep you close to our hearts. We’ll meet you at the bridge someday Griff, until then, enjoy paradise with our loved ones who have passed before us.

Love always,
Mom, Dad, Butters and Stewie
