FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We get LOTS of questions...usually about the same things. So whether you are new to this website or one of our "groupies" (and you know who you are), hopefully this general information will help clarify aspects of our rescue.

1). I saw a cat that I liked on your website and would like to visit it. How do I do that?

Very simply go to our website and click on our "Adoption Application Form" and fill it out online. We usually have a 24 hour turnaround time for processing applications. We will then give you a call. If everything works out you will be connected to the cat's foster home and you can make arrangements with her to see and possibly adopt the cat directly from her.

2). Where is your facility and when can I visit?

We are a foster based program and do not have a facility. Cats are kept in our homes for evaluation. Homes are scattered from northern Illinois to Kenosha, Wis. to Burlington, Wis. to Milwaukee to Madison, with the majority in the Kenosha area. Visitations are by appointment ONLY and an approved application must be on file.

3). How long do you keep applications?

Two months. Anything after that must be resubmitted.

4). I'm interested in a rare breed and it's gotta be a male kitten under 10 weeks with white feet, brown tail and silvery blue eyes (won't accept any other color). Could you please contact me when you get one of those in?

Nope. This is an extraordinarily busy rescue and we get in more than 200 e-mail PER DAY. Our website is kept updated daily and we DO NOT NOTIFY PEOPLE INDIVIDUALLY when specific cats come in. Plus if you are looking for something that specific you're not going to find it here anyway most likely. Keep an eye on our website and you'll see what we usually get and you can go from there.

5). Where do all these cats come from?

Everywhere. We are connected with shelters all over the midwest and between those and the owner surrenders we usually have a waiting list of 30 cats needing to come in at any given time. For more information read our page: "Why Purebred Cat Rescue."

6). But if a purebred cat comes into a shelter as a stray there must be something wrong with it, right?

Absolutely WRONG. About 80% of the cats we get into this rescue have no history whatsoever. What they usually do have is an obvious history of neglect (poor coat and physical condition) and sometimes abuse (afraid of children/men/dogs). These are cats that, with a little TLC, absolutely THRIVE in caring homes and never have any problems in their new places whatsoever.

7). But why would people spend hundreds of dollars on a Persian/Siamese/Sphynx and then abandon it on the street?

You tell us. It's a mystery we've never been able to solve.

8). What about owner surrenders?

Sometimes there are very sad circumstances in people's lives that make it impossible for them to keep their pets and we are sympathetic to that. Many rescues do NOT take owners surrenders because they feel it is the owner's responsibility to place their own animals. That is true and it is a responsibility, however we'd rather take a cat from an owner directly than have to take it from a shelter later when it is horribly sick from the viruses circulating around.

9). Do you allow out of state adoptions?

Certainly, but we do not ship or transport in any way. For more information, please see our "Adoption Application" page.

10). I've found a cat I'd really like to adopt but I need you to hold it for me for a few weeks while I do a few things.

Nope. We have a 30 cat waiting list. Every foster space is precious and can literally be the difference between life and death for a cat sitting in an overcrowded shelter. We ask that you make an appointment to see a cat as quickly as possible and the cat will be held for you for those few days. A week would be absolute maximum.

11). I'm not sure what I want. I'd just like to visit your foster homes and see some cats.

If you are not familiar with breeds, have no real idea of what you want and just want to visit cats, PLEASE, go to your local shelter and adopt a wonderful "regular" kitty who could really use your love (and you'd be saving a life!) Shelters are open to the public and welcome "walk-throughs." Our foster homes are people's homes and though we don't expect everyone to adopt every cat they go to visit, we ask for your consideration and respect as well. Know the difference between a Persian and a Siamese BEFORE you fill out an application. You will be saving yourself and us a great deal of time.

12). How is your rescue funded?

Entirely through adoption fees and some donations. There are no other sources of income for this type of work.

13). Do you make a lot of money out of purebred cats?

NO. 95% of the money raised through adoption fees and donations go strictly for vet bills and medications, which last year ran us almost $60,000. The remaining 5% goes for SALES TAX, ACCOUNTANT FEES, ADMINISTRATIVE COSTS (paperwork, supplies, etc.) and some food and litter. There are no salaries of any kind for anyone. This is purely a labor of love, as anyone who does rescue of any kind will tell you.
