The most common reason cats are released to shelters and rescues is behavior problems. The sad thing about this is that more than 90% of these problems are FIXABLE.
For the past 15 years, Cats International has been there, helping thousands of people all over the country with reasonable, down to earth advice to SOLVE cat behavior issues. Cats International is based in Cedarburg, Wis. and provides a wonderful web site where you can access many great articles on cat behavior; especially useful to new cat caregivers. You can access this website at www.catsinternational.org . This organization exists entirely on donations and is maintained by dedicated volunteer staff who truly believe that education is the key to the prevention of suffering.
CI gives educational programs to animal shelter/rescue staff, volunteers and the general public all over Wisconsin and in a number of other states. Generous handouts are provided and thousands of people have benefitted from these programs, enabling them to teach even more people and save ever more cats.
If you are in the southeastern Wisconsin/northern Illinois area and need help, please check the CI website first. If you can't find your answer, call 262-654-0764 and leave a message. This is a FREE service.
Remember, most cat problems have to do with communication. Your cat is trying to tell you something and you just need a translator. Please don't give up. There are too many homeless cats already.
