MEMORIALS

This is a special page devoted to those near and dear to us, both human and feline, who have made special impacts on our lives. Their enduring legacies will always live on in our hearts and in the happy endings that many hundreds of needy cats will receive as a result.

norma-maxey-day

Norma Maxey Day, 89, passed on 12/31/16.  She was a Beloved Mother and Meme. She leaves 4 children, 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.   She has now joined the love of her life, her husband Bob, in heaven.

She was a cat lover and SPCR was her favorite rescue!  She loved all the stories and pictures of everyone’s kitties and always wished she was younger so she could drive up and adopt a SPCR baby! She especially loved Susan Wente and the 5th Colony. Susan’s tribute posted on SPCR’s Facebook group described Norma perfectly.   She will be missed.

IN MEMORY OF PRINCESS BEBE (SPCR DEBBIE)

Adopted with Love – November 4, 2014

Crossed the Rainbow Bridge –  November 4, 2016

My precious Bebe – although we only had two short years with you when FIP snatched you from our lives, you will always be alive in our hearts.  You were chatty, funny, loving and beautiful.  And very much a Princess.  We  miss you every day and I know I will see you again at the Bridge with your other sisters that have passed before you.

When we think of those companions who traveled by our side down life’s road, let us not say with sadness that they left us behind, but rather say with gentle gratitude that they once were with us.

Dawn, Kenny and Kevin

In Memory of Mars

1999 – 2016

Mars, Marzee, Marzipan, Marston T. Kitty; you were known by several names to each of us.  You adopted us in 2010 after your previous caretaker had passed.  You were already aging then at 11 years, but continued to watch over us for another 6 years until the final decision had to be made.  We will miss your vocal protests at closing any door; your nose bumping to get under the bed covers on those cold Wisconsin nights; and your incessant inquiries into what was happening in every room at every moment of every day.  Thank you for being our companion.  You will be greatly missed.

Mark, Amanda, Evan & Erin Roberts

Thank you Kirsten and SPCR for giving us Suzie Q, an American Shorthair Silver Tabby beauty.
A donation to SPCR has been made in memory of Suzie.

Suzie was a blessing to our family and we cherished her. She loved to be combed, give us head bumps,
look at herself in the mirror, and eat.

We’ll keep her in our hearts and look forward to seeing her again on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge.

Thank you Kirsten and SPCR for all you do, and a special thank you to Rebecca, for introducing us to this special little girl.

Chia-
We are so glad you were a part of our life’s journey.
If love was all it took to mend your little body, you would have lived forever!
You were such a pretty girl with a beautiful soul, and we can’t wait, until once again, you can give us one of those fantastic hugs!
Love you so much little baby girl!

Allison in Jacket 2

Allison

1994 – 2014

A donation has been made in the memory of Allison to SPCR.

Our sweet doll face girl had a very rough start in life. The founder of SPCR (Kirsten Kranz) fostered her back to health many years ago. Allison was abused early in her life. We were honored to love Allison for nearly 20 years. It is amazing that at about 1½ years of age she was near death and went on to live an enjoyable life to the age of 20. It was a joy to share our home with such a sweet girl. We are very grateful to Kirsten and SPCR for saving and improving the lives of many unwanted kitties.

Allison is still loved, remembered daily and missed very much.

Help Me!

CREATURE:

Adopted with Love – June 27, 2008

Passed over the Rainbow Bridge – August 10, 2015

You brought us unconditional love and light.  You were kind and patient, funny and crazy.  You were one of a kind.   You are missed every day and we will see you again in Heaven at the Bridge.   I love you my Angel.

“Miss Me, But Let Me Go”

When I come to the end of the road,
And the sun has set for me

I want no tears in a gloom filled room
Why cry for a soul set free?

Miss me a little, but not for long
And not with your head bowed low

Always remember the love we shared
Miss me – but let me go.

 IN LOVING MEMORY OF CHRISTINA

In loving memory of Christina; a very special Seal Point Himalayan. Adopted from SPCR 08-23-2003 at the age of 5 years. Christina passed away Nov. 15, 2014 due to renal failure. Thanks to Sullivan Veterinary Services-Dr. Rick Loof for all of his help and expertise- IV fluids, Prescription diets and caring way of thinking. Dr. Rick said she was a real “trooper”- she got what she wanted- she died at home. Thank you Kirsten (SPCR), for giving us the experiences and memories of such a wonderful kitty. She will be in our hearts forever. Pat Eckel

IN MEMORY OF SHANNON FOX

Shannon passed away suddenly of a suspected heart attack Tuesday, April 1st, 2014. He and his wife, Janell are avid cat lovers and have rescued, as well. Janell continues to look  towards the Specialty Purebred Cat Rescue group to help her through this time as she grieves with her family, particularly her 4-legged ones. A memorial donation was made to SPCR to celebrate Shannon’s life and his love and passion for cats. Love, Dave, Erin, and Dash Nelson

JACK (aka HONEYBEAR)
Left us way too soon after 5-1/2 years of unconditional love.  Poor guy had no claws, no balls, one eye, and 6 teeth – and then his kidneys failed.  The vet’s first comment was “This cat is missing a lot of parts.” He was a kind and gentle soul who greeted us every morning with a yelp and “the paw”.  He taught his brother Wookie how to jump on counters and open doors. He will be terribly missed by all that knew him.  Thank you to Lyndale Animal Hospital for all their love and care – we all cried on Jack’s last day as he was one of their favorite patients.  We take comfort that he will be joining Reina, Cicardo, & Sammi who went before him to the big cat house in the sky.  His spirit will remain with us forever.

OBI-WAN
“The cat has too much spirit to have no heart.” – Ernest Menault
You are remembered as a gentle soul with a heart of gold. These loving memories you gave will be with us forever.  From you, we have learned life lessons and cat care skills that will enable us to give greater care to our next foster cats.  For that we owe you our deepest gratitude. The only thing left to say is, Obi-Wan is now one with the force.
Go in peace.
Your loving foster parents, Jens & Caitlin

JONAS “POSSUM” HIRSH-HAINES
Was the first child my husband and I adopted in December 2007 (via the Specialty Purebred Cat Rescue). To us, he was never just a cat…he was our son. Though by appearances this scruffy little cat with his snaggle teeth, scratched face and missing hair would have been deemed the runt of the litter, he was perfect to us (Jonas was a “natural” Sphynx…a domestic cat born with the hairless gene, meaning he had no undercoat, just a layer of course outer hairs). By bringing Jonas into our life, my husband and I transitioned from newlywed couple to a family. Jonas was our son, nurse, therapist, friend and confidant. His unconditional love has left an indelible mark on our lives and the lives of his rescue terrier brothers, Oliver and Maxwell, as well as anyone whom he cuddled.

Jonas passed away on May 27th due to complications from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM)…his heart was literally too big. We would like to thank the amazing staff members of Berglund Animal Hospital in Evanston, Il., as well as the Chicago Veterinary Emergency  Specialty Center, Dr. Howes and Dr. Leuthy–we are grateful for the care you provided to our son.

Specialty purebred Cat Rescue, thank you for showing us the opportunity to have Jonas in our lives. He was one in a million.

IN MEMORY OF OUR BIG BOY, GRIFFIN TIGGELAAR.
He was taken from us far too soon, but his unique personality filled our hearts with enough love and memories to last a lifetime. We miss your furry heavy pads pressing down on us with all your weight and the way you announced your every move. We will always love you and keep you close to our hearts. We’ll meet you at the bridge someday Griff, until then, enjoy paradise with our loved ones who have passed before us.
Love always,
Mom, Dad, Butters and Stewie

Our best buddy, BENTO (Jason 2005), lost his battle with congenital kidney disease on Thursday, August 25, 2011.

He was nine years young. Bento provided endless amounts of laughter and joy in our lives and never met a person, cat, dog or baby that he didn’t instantly love. Only with time will our thoughts that lead to tears eventually end with smiles. Bento certainly taught us a thing or two about life and we hope he knows how much we loved him. We will be making a donation in his name and we hope it can help make the life of another special-needs kitty a little more comfortable.

IN LOVING MEMORY OF SUGAR,
who passed away so unexpectedly in 2009. She was the friendliest and most loving kitty anyone could have asked for. Sugar was beautiful inside and out, always there to cheer her people up, with her meow and head bumps. She showed her love for her humans even in her passing, I cried and comforted her as they put her to sleep and she purred in my arms even though in great pain and her last moments. Sugar will always be missed by our family and has touched our hearts forever.

Love your Family,

Lenny, Pam, Lisa, Brittany and your best buddy Echo

IN MEMORY OF MIJO

On Saturday, August 11, 2007 we drove 12 hours from Tulsa to Kenosha to take a chance on making a connection with a cute little hairless rescue pictured on the SPCR website.  We don’t know whether Kirsten thought we were dedicated cat owners or just plain crazy for driving that far, but take the chance we did and in the end it was worth every mile we drove. When we first saw our Mijo the next day, it was love at first sight and Kirsten allowed Mijo to adopt us. Thank you, Kirsten, for having faith in us when we told you he would have a ‘forever’ home with us, no matter what ‘issues’ he brought with him. After just 2-½ years, our beloved Mijo left us the morning of March 28, 2010. His heart threw a clot that paralyzed his back legs and his lungs were filled with fluid. He gave a good fight, but the hypertrophic cardiomyopathy got the best of him. Three months from diagnosis to death.  Mijo was just five years old when he left us. Sadly missed, lovingly remembered, rest in peace little one … you were ‘the best cat who ever lived’.

He died from renal failure a couple of months ago.

Thank you for your service and allowing me to have him as my friend for 4 years.
